Connecting Our Seniors to Their Community (click for poster)
Thanks to church members that supported "The Something's Happening Here" campaign in 2008, we were able to set aside $45,000 for an outreach project east of the Seymour River. The Outreach Team researched the needs of this community and sought out partners to work with on a project. They found an excellent partner in Parkgate Community Services Society along with a dedicated staff to work with there.
Research of the area determined that frail, elderly seniors at home were isolated and at risk. After about a year, our weekly bus service that picks up seniors at home and assists them with shopping at Lynn Valley Mall, is about 3/4 of capacity. We are still looking for participants and have found that word of mouth is the most helpful way to make contacts.
Volunteers are needed on Fridays for about 3 hours to assist the seniors on their outing. Contact Jennifer Dibnah at (604)983-6354 for more information.
