Music is alive and thriving at MSUC. We believe music is an essential element of worship, self- expression, creativity, community-building, and healing. We feature three choirs; Adult, Youth, and Children. Everyone is welcome to come and sing, no music reading ability or previous experience needed. For more experienced singers looking for challenge and growth, there will also be a vocal ensemble formed from members of the adult and youth choirs. Styles of music include world, classical, folk, pop, and jazz.
MSUC also features the Mt. Seymour Community Gospel Choir that rehearses once a month. We sing rousing, roof-raising gospel music, and everyone in the greater community is welcome to sing, no commitment required. The gospel choir features its own house band as well as fabulous guest soloists.
All three choirs will have the opportunity to sing at Sunday services as well as outreach projects, such as performing in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
Instrumental music is also welcome at MSUC. Whatever instrument you play, you will have an opportunity to be included in MSU’s music program.
We are always interested in featuring soloists or ensembles of any musical style as guest artist in a service. If you are interested in offering your music as a part of our services or community outreach, contact Brian at briantate@shaw.ca. Lift Up Your Voice!
Come and sing in the Mt. Seymour United Church Gospel Choir with our Minister of Music Brian Tate. Brian leads a spirit-raising, hand-clapping, voice-lifting gospel experience once per month. Feel the passion and power of gospel music! All voices are welcome, and music reading is not required. Lyrics and sheet music will be available in advance of rehearsals. Come prepared to have a great time!
Practices are on the fourth Thursdays:
6:30 - 7:30 pm for those who would like to sing solos
7:30 pm for all who want to sing in the choir
The choir will sing at worship on the Sunday following the practice.
Mark these dates: Sept. 25/28, Oct. 23/26, Nov. 20/23
2008 MSUC Choir Retreat and Workshop
Saturday, September 13 10AM - 4PM
Love to sing? Want to join our church choir that sings most Sundays? All are welcome for the MSUC choir retreat. No audition, music reading ability, or experience is required to join any of MSUC's choirs. For more experienced singers, a vocal ensemble will be formed to sing more challenging repertoire.
The retreat/workshop is an opportunity to meet one another, sing together, get your choir questions answered, learn some useful vocal tips, preview music for the upcoming season, have some fun, and begin to make music as an ensemble. Come for the day - or any part of it - and meet and sing with our new music minister Brian Tate.
Weekly choir practices resume on Sept. 4th at 7:30 pm.
